Volunteer Professional Service for
Saving Lives, Giving Hope to the Disabled, and Training Emerging and Professional Leaders

The ISR Foundation's volunteer professional service  program is accepting applications on a rolling  basis by October 31. Due  to the international nature of  ISR programs, our volunteers are  located all over the globe and much of the work is conducted online and via video conference. Volunteer professionals  locally available in Washington DC are offered further hands-on program  experience. Volunteer professional staff at the ISR Foundation contribute to the following critical areas.

Research and Teaching
  • Research and Grant Writing . As an integral part of core ISR  programs, volunteer research professionals work closely  with subject experts of healthcare, science diplomacy and humanitarian programs to help conduct background research, develop reports, and contribute to writing interdisciplinary research grant applications meeting the needs of the disadvantaged people in DPRK and other developing countries.
  • Clinical Training Faculty for Health Sciences. Pyongyang Institute of Health Sciences (PIHS) requires year-round rotation of volunteer clinical teaching faculty to train DPRK medical professionals with the current training priority in TB, hepatitis and other infectious disease.  Volunteer faculty of public health and medicine we recruit include, but are not limited to, the following subjects: epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental science, infectious disease, TB, hepatitis, malaria, internal medicine, orthopedics, anesthesiology, surgery, and nursing among others.
  • Teaching Faculty and Staff for Survey Methodology and Statistics. Pyongyang Summer Institute in Survey Science and Quantitative Methodology (PSI) requires instructors of statistics and survey methodology for intensive summer workshop and other training programs. Modeled after the 65-years old Summer Institute at the University of Michigan, a renowned international training program of survey methodology, PSI's target beneficiaries are graduate students and professionals in DPRK who would benefit from survey methodology and statistical training that involves fundamental and advanced courses. Instructors are needed in the following subjects: sampling theory and applications, statistics primer, survey methodology, census methods, questionnaire design, computer-assisted collection and analysis of survey data, business survey methodology, health survey statistics, education survey methodology, R statistical computing, and statistical use of administrative records. English is the official language of instruction.

Strategic Management and Communications
  • Program Management. Most program management professionals work 4 to 8 hours a week on a year-round basis to provide support to plan and manage projects in research, teaching, and humanitarian service. Some qualified volunteer professionals may join the DPRK trip to help administer on-site teaching and research programs.
  • Communications. Communications staff facilitate online meetings, writing,  website development, database management, and provide support for computer and IT needs.
  • Conference and Events Management. These volunteer professionals assist with local meetings, national conferences, and briefings with governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Development and Human Resources
  • Development and International Relations.   DIR professionals develop and manage creative fundraising programs with professional communities across North America and Europe as well as Asia, and develop enduring partnership programs with private and public organizations, including government and UN agencies, to run innovative programs of healthcare and education for the disadvantaged people in DPRK and other developing countries.
  • Human Resources and Development.   HRD professionals manage to recruit qualified faculty and staff across the Atlantic and the Pacific who implement high quality programs in health sciences, education and humanitarian sectors of DPRK.
  • Other  Tasks for Volunteers include, but are not limited to: coordinating the da  Vinci Grant Program (a grant program for university students and emerging professionals in  North Korea),  communicating  with media community, organizing briefings,  and overseeing program logistics. Some qualified volunteers may have  the  opportunity  to participate  in briefings with government officials in the US, ROK, UK and Germany,  executive leaders of NGOs, and senior representatives of UN agencies and multinational organizations.

Qualifications

Excellent verbal, writing and organizational skills are essential. Volunteer professionals must  be able to work well independently under general guidance and team-oriented programs.  Since our team is international, applicants must demonstrate an ability to flourish in virtual environment. Volunteers periodically meet usually over video conference for coordinated management. Applicants must be able to handle confidential and sensitive  information. Volunteers would work 4-8 hours a week and require at least a year of commitment.  For  qualified volunteer professionals, we offer an opportunity to join the DPRK trip to serve the disadvantaged people as part of ongoing healthcare projects, teaching and training programs, and innovative on-site research programs.
