Science Diplomacy via a Vehicle of Health Sciences and Education
Science diplomacy is the overarching principle to guide the ISR Foundation's interdisciplinary research and humanitarian programs to benefit the disadvantaged people across Asia, including DPRK and developing nations. The ISR Foundation has implemented health science diplomacy programs in the first 10 years since its program inception in DPRK in 1995 by focusing on provision of essential medicine and medical supplies to DPRK hospitals across the country. The critical need to fill in was then to provide medicine timely to save lives. The ISR Foundation has gradually transitioned to education science diplomacy once the humanitarian crisis which hit DPRK and its citizens around 1995 had been under control for the following decade. Researchers and staff affiliated with the ISR Foundation provide support required for building foundation of interdisciplinary research and healthcare sciences.
The Pyongyang Institute of Healthcare Sciences is an intensive year-round training program of DPRK medical professionals to equip them with clinical skills of controlling and preventing Tuberculosis and hepatitis, the most prevalent disease consuming a significant number of people in DPRK.
The PSI International Summer Institute for Survey Science and Interdisciplinary Research is the latest science diplomacy initiative to promote interdisciplinary applied research grounded on quantitative training needs across Asia and Latin America with its focus on developing countries.
